What a place for our first adventure since lockdown started. To the dark skies in Mid Ulster to stay @sperrinview Incredible designed glamping pods, facing towards the sky for night time star viewing. 💫 Sleeps 5, beautiful design, private bathroom. What a day! First day we have got a bit further th

What a day! First day we have got a bit further than right on our doorstep in quite a while. On day 77 of lockdown back to @nationaltrustbelfast Divis and Black Mountain. Perfect way to test out the new Fitbit belonging to Miss (now) 8 (birthday was on Thursday). A 5 mile hike, followed by a 3.5 mile cycle. The little legs were tired! We’ve been busy - work, home school, birthday and life generally. But we are back. How are you embracing this incredible weather? ☀️

We’ve been a little missing in action during all

We’ve been a little missing in action during all this! It’s been busy, stressful, strange but we’ve been trying hard to spend as much time in the outdoors with nature as possible. Discovering lots of places we have never explored right on our doorstep. Travelling local has been fun! What have you discovered during this lockdown?

Schools are gone (or going) by the end of the week

Schools are gone (or going) by the end of the week. 🏫 Whether your child likes or hates school this is a big change. They are likely to have a reaction- maybe more irritable, maybe upset. Encourage them to talk about it, and just listen. It’s also stressful for many parents- can you work? Juggling work from home is not easy. How do you get childcare? Filter a little what you say - they need to know that the adults will manage this and they are safe. 💙 💚 💛 💜 Tonight a little self care, for you and your little ones. Stop, breathe, eat something comforting, have a bath, tomorrow you can make a plan. How are you taking care of yourself tonight? #morethansurvive2020

Let’s do more than survive this, let’s find a way to thrive. We need our kids (and our own) mental health and emotional wellbeing to be supported through this. There’s lots of chat about home schooling and yes education is important but we need to help them develop the resilience they will need going forward. Children’s mental health is vital for now and for the future. It’s something I’m passionate about (and my day job is a children’s mental health practitioner) and is a big part of why we started our #screenfreeadventures I’m going to share some tips and ideas on how we promote positive mental health over the uncertain times ahead, please join in, share your ideas and together we can #morethansurvive2020

These relaxed happy faces in the sun feels like it was in a different world. I’m so thankful we made it South Africa before the world went crazy. We’ve been quiet, due to working in the NHS and all the planning going on. So much for a better work life balance after my trip!
We plan to continue to share our South Africa adventures, but also some suggestions and ideas on how to support our kids to navigate these days and have some screen free adventures much much more locally! How do you plan to adjust to life over the next while?

As the sunsets on our African adventure one thing

As the sunsets on our African adventure one thing I’m certain, we will be back. It’s been an incredible experience for all three little adventurers, opening their eyes and hearts to our planet more. We’ve had lots of messages about our itinerary and how we’ve done everything so when we are home we will share more about the trip and how you can do it too.

Wandering through the forest looking for and finding many monkeys just swinging their way through the trees with my monkeys. We had a really fun morning @saasa_monkeyland learning about all the different types- they were so incredibly active! You can get tickets that cover entrance here, @saasa_birdsofeden and @saasa_jukani which makes for a really fun animal filled day. Great opportunity to learn about these animals that have been rescued in a respectful way without them being exploited which seems to be frequent across South Africa. Thanks for hosting us. #gifted
