The Merchants or the chancers of Venice? 🇮🇹 We had a flying visit to Venice - for 2 nights. Perfect to see the main sites, St Marks Square, Under the Rialto Bridge at sunset in a Gondolier. Definitely not our cheapest trip but we got amazing priced flights (£10 for 4 of us one way from UK), accommodation near the train station was cheaper and the little feet walked everywhere. Lunch off the main route tasty at a good price but the ice cream at the waterfront cost more than lunch!

Hands up who is this excited to be back travelling? We are adventuring in Ibiza and Mallorca this summer. It was a bit of a faff to sort out the rapidly changing COVID travel requirements (made more complex by Northern Ireland) but we made it and it’s fantastic. Fairly quiet, great weather, lots of swimming, exploring and eating good food. Happy explorers once again. Have you any plans to get away? #summer2021

Fanad Lighthouse - this impressive lighthouse is 2

Fanad Lighthouse - this impressive lighthouse is 22 metres high from foundation to the top of the tower (not including the lantern). The light is 39 metres above sea level and there are 76 steps in the tower – 59 spiral granite steps and 17 ladder steps. You can even stay overnight!

The spectacular Glengesh Pass part of the Wild Atlantic Way. Created by a glacier it means Glens of the Swans. A high windy road, that caused a few gasps from the traumatised little people from our Oman mountain adventure near death experience (we will save that story for another day!)

Malin Beg- a wee sheltered spot of pure beauty in Donegal. Also called the silver strand and it’s nestled in a horse shoe bay. Not only do you pass the sheep grazing on the hills around it but we met a pet goat 🐐 with a pretty pink lead having a stroll on the beach. Where’s your favourite beach?

Found around most parts of the Irish coast with many along the #wildatlanticway these huge stone EIRE (Ireland in Irish) signs were a declaration of neutrality and also a somewhat less than neutral navigational aid for overflying Allied airmen to whom the numbered locations were useful guide points during their World War 2 missions. Point 71- Muckross Head.

The (not so) secret waterfall! What an adventure on the #wildatlanticway. It can only be accessed at low tide as required you to clamber across wave cut platforms and rocks that are submerged at other times. (Also need to be aware of tides to not get trapped). Then into a cave and this wonder appears. What’s your favourite off the beaten track adventure?

The Gap of Mamore - also previously known as the P

The Gap of Mamore - also previously known as the Poitin Republic. This barren and empty area in Inishowen was the centre of poitin making. When it became illegal, they continued. When the government tried to force closure the people declared their own republic in the Urris hills. For 3 years in 1812 they ruled themselves and they say that they hurled rocks at anyone who tried to stop them. Any other moonshine republics out there?

Cottages in Ireland. There’s so many of them as you drive around Donegal - with the lovely thatched roof and beautiful window boxes of flowers. @doaghfaminevillage is a great place to visit and learn about what life was like before and during the Great Irish Famine when the potato crop failed. You can also learn all about the history of poitin - an Irish alcoholic drink made from potatoes. There’s a wee sample on offer too and plenty of yarns (stories) about all the smuggling of illegal poitin around the area. Have you ever tasted it?
